Michael Draine's Twisted Vista
Heldon
Stand By
(Cuneiform)
Heldon’s 1978 final album documents the
overlooked French electronic rock band at
their most focused, aggressive, and intense.
Patrick Gautier’s battery of analog synthetics
sounds fresh and vital compared to today’s
digital presets, and the juxtaposition of
Richard Pinhas’s stinging guitar against
driving, vertiginous sequence patterns and
combative bass/drum interplay suggests an
alternate-universe collaboration between
Tangerine Dream and the Butthole Surfers.
